Hi Laura,
All your points are well taken. However, I think you have to differentiate between trying to sell a concept to selling a product, service or whatever. I find that the rules you established apply when you are trying to sell a concept. However, if the basic concept is already out there and people understand and appreciate it, then even if you are creating your own unique spin to it, you can often ride on your competitions coattails and hopefully speed-sell your idea.

That's a really interesting article, I think the key point about the branding of non-profit organisations is to take things slowly. All the good work will soon spread by word of mouth.

I am managing a social community, and it is true that growing the community has to start slow. Trying to get radical numbers within the first month or two will not create loyalty - plus, it's going to be difficult to manage all those relations.
